Work Work Work

Just received a sms from the boss asking if I can confirm when I will be back. And if I can go back earlier as it will help her greatly “Even if you can help me wif one day. i’m grateful….”

Replied her since my medical leave is so uncertain, subjecting to my doctor’s extensions and she has difficulties with her manpower planning, why not I apply for unpaid leave for a fixed duration (like 2 months) so I can free up my position for her to hire someone to help the team out. But she says “Honestly, if you wan to help me, taking unpaid leave is not….”

Feeling frustrated and that is not good for my health even though she mentions “But of course health comes first….”

With this invisible stress coming from her and the obvious hint that if I’m not back earlier to help her out greatly, anything that has got to do with my appraisal, bonus, promotion, leave will be in jeopardy.

See, that’s why she on top of me, she knows how to play the office game very well lor!

Now how?

Some Days Ago

Some days ago, I was feeling that everything seems to be going downhill for me. Actually, I still feel its going downhill but the feeling wasn’t as magnified as compared to some days ago.

I do not know if its due to my illness that I’m so easily irritated by others (and also so easily being irritating to others coz I’m sure such things are mutual) by every and any thing recently. I’m hating and hating and hating at every little opportunity.

Just like that same some days ago, I was hungry in the middle of the night and I so wanted to eat curly fries (ok, I know I’m supposed to sleep early and not supposed to be eating oily food but if I don’t eat it, I can’t sleep so that’s worse right not?). Dar went to buy at our nearby 24-hrs Mac, but they don’t sell it curly fries at that outlet anymore.

How can! Further, Cal said Chinatown Mac (coz she just ate Mac that very same evening and found a ’lost’ curly fry in her packet of normal fries) still got. No shaker fries already and now no curly fries. I want to write to Mac to complain!

Then, I was feeling bored so asked Cal to play a game of scrabble to make my brain tired enough to sleep. After I logged in, created the table, invited her, I waited and waited and waited but she’s still not here.

In my utter boredom (that was also why I jio her to play scrabble with me mah in the first place), I click ‘Invite’ many many many times for fun to keep myself occupied (and torture her, haha) till suddenly I got kicked out by Yahoo.

HOW CAN THEY DO THAT TO ME! I’m not clicking to irritate strangers mah, purposely making fun of my friend family member, my FRIEND FAMILY MEMBER you know. And I was having a bit of bo liao fun (happy!) and THEY BOOTED ME. Pissed! I want to write to Yahoo to complain!

The worse part was when I wanted to log in again…

In case you can’t read the tiny words, it says “You have been barred from logging into Yahoo! Games until..(date)..”.

Grrrrrr. Stupid! Lucky, I got spare ID to use. Haha… *bleahs*

So you see, everything just seems to be going against me, firstest is falling sick needing a long rest, then, just a simple supper and game also can go horribly, irritatibly, hatingly wrong.

What’s wrong with my horoscope stars in my planets, moving in the wrong directions? :( What’s wrong with my chinese zodiac animal, climbing the wrong tree? :( What’s wrong with my guardian angel, forgotten about me? :(

Internet Search Engines

Internet search engines has become an important part of my life. I used it everyday to find stuffs that I need like all the information on Hepatitis.

I wonder how to internet search engines come up with the order of the search results though.

Like I did a search on myself on Yahoo and Google. Nothing near my leg hair (hmmm, that reminds me, I need to get rid of them. heh…) came up from Yahoo and Google Singapore. But amazingly, this new blog came up first on Google Web and my friendster third. I mean its like so clever and knows what I’m looking for because honestly, Linda Chua is a extremely extremely common name so my expectations was near zero.

Conclusion is that I should use Google Web more for my searches going forward (I didn’t do the above for fun ok). Hee hee…

The results also made me realised I put my full name for friendster. *duh* So toot! Immediately went to change it.

Anyways, the results are pretty scary because I don’t really want people to find me so easily if they are looking for me. If they are looking for me, couldn’t be anything good mah, right not.

Then again, I don’t think anybody would search for me online la. I’m not anyone at all. Not like that ‘Falling Snow’, did a search on her as well. Funny thing is her direct blog link didn’t really came up in the first page of searches. And I’m pretty impressed she’s actually being defined in Wikipedia, the popular free online encyclopedia!

Aurora Borealis

Imagine natural fireworks…

Pictures of fireworks are so beautiful captured on film but when you watch them live, its like 1,000,000,000 times more breathtaking. This picture is nicer than a fireworks picture, so I can’t imagine how spectacular watching it live must be.

I want to go Finland! I want to go Finland! I want to go Finland!

I Don’t Think My Boss Will Understand

“They are often confined to bed and minimal activity for about 4 weeks and have to stop their work for one to three months or longer.”

I’m thinking of going back to work. Though the doctor has advised me to stay home and had extended my medical leave till 10-October, the next consultation. Somehow, after telling my boss and Stacie (my friend-colleague), I don’t think they are very pleased about it.

Of course not pleased la, righfully, we are supposed to have 5 persons in the service team but making do with 4.5 persons - half a customer service manager only (she takes care of 2 centers so half-half lor), 3 relationship service managers and 1 customer service officer.

But now, half the customer service manager has just tendered her resignation, 1 relationship service manager got transferred out 2 months back and the new person whom is recruited to transfer in just decided to play us out and not come over, while the customer service officer also requested to be transferred out and it has since been approved so she’s leaving end October.

Adding on to the chaos is me, already took 2 weeks medical leave plus taking another 2 weeks more totalling 1 month.

How to cope like that? Left 1 person to support the whole team of 8 sales people when its a job for 5.

I think I’ve to say bye bye to whatever bonus or promotions or job rotation there might be, which I was looking forward, should I not be back in office earlier.

It will also jeopardise my leave that I’ll be taking from end October to mid November (3 weeks) to study for my exams, should I not be back in office earlier.

Sighs, I’m feeling very moody over this…

Human Liver, Hepatitis A, Jaundice

The Human Liver

The liver is an organ in vertebrates, including humans. It plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body including glycogen storage, plasma protein synthesis, and drug detoxification. It also produces bile, which is important in digestion. It performs and regulates a wide variety of high-volume biochemical reactions requiring specialized tissues.

The adult human liver normally weighs between 1.3 – 3.0 kilograms, and is a soft, pinkish-brown “boomerang shaped” organ. It is the second largest organ (the largest organ being the skin) and the largest gland within the human body.

Its anatomical position in the body is immediately under the diaphragm on the right side of the upper abdomen. The liver lies on the right of the stomach and makes a kind of bed for the gallbladder (which stores bile).

The liver is among the few internal human organs capable of natural regeneration of lost tissue; as little as 25% of remaining liver can regenerate into a whole liver again.

Some functions of liver relating to Hepatitis:

  • The liver breaks down hemoglobin, creating metabolites that are added to bile as pigment.
  • The liver produces and excretes bile required for dissolving fats.
  • Some of the bile drains directly into the duodenum, and some is stored in the gallbladder.
  • The liver breaks down toxic substances and most medicinal products in a process called drug metabolism. This sometimes results in toxication, when the metabolite is more toxic than its precursor.
  • The liver converts ammonia to urea.

Many diseases of the liver are accompanied by jaundice caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the system. The bilirubin results from the breakup of the hemoglobin of dead red blood cells; normally, the liver removes bilirubin from the blood and excretes it through bile.

Hapatitis

Hepatitis is a gastroenterological disease (inflammation of the liver). It is caused mainly by various viruses but also by some poisons, autoimmunity or hereditary conditions.

A number of liver function tests are available to test the proper function of the liver. These test for the presence of enzymes in blood that are normally most abundant in liver tissue, metabolites or products.

Some chronic forms of hepatitis show very few of symptoms and only present when the longstanding inflammation has led to the replacement of liver cells by connective tissue; the result is cirrhosis (liver scarring). Certain liver function tests can also indicate hepatitis.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A or infectious jaundice is an enterovirus transmitted by the orofecal route, transmitted to humans through methods such as contaminated food. It causes an acute form of hepatitis and does not have a chronic stage.

The patient’s immune system makes antibodies against hepatitis A that confer immunity against future infection. A vaccine is available that will prevent infection from hepatitis A for life.

Normally, it can be spread through personal contact, consumption of raw sea food or drinking contaminated water.

Hepatitis A is transmitted fecal-orally, generally by ingesting contaminated water or food. Strict personal hygiene and the avoidance of raw and unpeeled foods can help prevent an infection.

Infected persons already begin excreting the hepatitis A virus with their stool two weeks after the appearance of the first symptoms.

The time between the infection and the start of the illness can run from 15 to 45 days, and approximately 15% of sufferers may experience relapsing symptoms from six months to a year following initial diagnosis.

Hepatitis A is caused by the Hepatitis A Virus (abbreviated HAV). Only 3 out of 4 people with Hepatitis A have symptoms. Those symptoms may include:

  • Jaundice (showing up first as yellow eyes)
  • Dark urine
  • Nausea
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Stomach ache
  • Vomiting
  • Itchiness

Ways to prevent hepatitis A include the following:

  • Wash hands with soap and warm water before preparing or eating food, and after sexual activity.
  • Keep bathrooms clean and disinfected after every use.
  • Cook shellfish thoroughly before eating.
  • Drink water from approved sources only.
  • Use a dental dam or sheet of plastic wrap during anilingus.

Recovery

There is no specific treatment for Hepatitis A. Sufferers are advised to rest, avoid alcohol, eat a well-balanced diet, and stay hydrated. Approximately 15% of people diagnosed with Hepatitis A may experience a symptomatic relapse for up to nine months after contracting the disease.

Young children who catch hepatitis A often have a milder form of the disease, usually lasting from 1-3 weeks, whereas adults tend to experience a much more severe form of the disease.

They are often confined to bed and minimal activity for about 4 weeks and have to stop their work for one to three months or longer. Many adults take up to 6-12 months and occasionally longer to recover entirely. Symptoms that may be experienced after the first month or two are low immunity: It is much easier to catch minor infections and for these infections to linger longer than they normally would.

Many people experience a slow but sure improvement, over this later period. They are generally able to function fairly normally, still needing more sleep and reduced athletic activity. It is common for recovering patients to experience occasional “off” days, during which they need to rest more.

Jaundice

Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin, sclera (the white of the eyes) and mucous membranes caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the human body (or the body of another red blooded animal).

When red blood cells die, the heme in their hemoglobin is converted to bilirubin in the spleen and in the hepatocytes in the liver. The bilirubin is processed by the liver, enters bile and is eventually excreted through feces.

Consequently, there are three different classes of causes for jaundice. Pre-hepatic or hemolytic causes, where too many red blood cells are broken down, hepatic causes where the processing of bilirubin in the liver does not function correctly, and post-hepatic or extrahepatic causes, where the removal of bile is disturbed.

Hepatic causes include acute hepatitis, hepatotoxicity and alcoholic liver disease, whereby cell necrosis reduces the liver’s ability to metabolise and excrete bilirubin leading to a build up in the blood.

Jaundice seen in the newborn, known as neonatal jaudice, is common, occuring in almost every newborn as hepatic machinery for the conjugation and excretion of bilirubin does not fully mature until approximately two weeks of age.

Medical Leave

Just came back from the doctor’s office.

Results for blood test turns up as expected – ALT, ALP and AST numbers going down while Bilirubin number went up.

ALT, ALP and AST are the enzymes produced from the liver or something to measure the hepatitis level. Obviously, if its high means not good lor. Normal range is like from 20 to 50, my first blood test was over 1000. Then second blood test went down to 800 and now its getting better at 400.

Sounds a lot but the doctor says those serious cases is for those with more than 10,000 so mine is not so alarming lor. At first, when I saw my report at 1000 compared to normal 50, I’m also so shocked ‘huh? so much? will I die?’

Whereas Bilirubin is something they use to measure jaundice. It went up from 400 to about 500. Normal range is roughly between 20 to 50 also, I think.

Reminded not to take too much fatty or oily food and not too much meat as it taxes the liver to process them. Appetite slowly coming back but I eat in very tiny portions. Feel full after a couple of mouthfuls of whatever I’m eating. But now so many things cannot eat like that, how to survive. I love food can, especially junk food. *wails*

Still need lots of rest to recuperate as like I’ve mentioned there’s no medicine and rest is the key to recovery. So medical leave got extended till 10 October, my next appointment.

I don’t think my boss is going to be very happy about that.

Illness

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Honestly, I’ve never taken so much medical leave. Told you my life contradicts, boss say don’t take so much MC and the next day onwards I on MC.

Don’t know if my subconsiouness is at play causing the illness because I was pretty upset when she said that, all my MCs are genuine ok. I was really very sick everytime. Or is it her retribution for being so mean?

Got diagnosed with Hepatitis A only after I survived the worst period.

Did lots of research on Hepatitis A online and the information turned up wasn’t too worrying. Just that there’s no Hepatitis medicine, the liver heals itself, needs lots of rest and it takes months to recover. But Hepatitis B and all the other strains can lead to liver failure and cancer (scary lor, I very kiasi one leh).

The jaundice is still very apparent and the urine colour still looks pretty awful (I’m sure actually you don’t want to know that, haha…). I look funny with yellow skin and eyes. Now, the adjective ‘huang lian po’ is so apt on me lor.

Went for my blood test yesterday (3rd one already, I hate needles!), seeing the specialist again later. Hope my blood count is improving. Still feeling the strain physically on my liver as rest is inadequate this two days with an assignment due on Wednesday.

Poor liver…
