Memos To All Mommy & Daddy From A Child

Don’t spoil me.
I know quite well that I ought not to have all that I ask for, I’m only testing you.

Don’t be afraid to be firm with me.
I prefer it, it makes me more secure.

Don’t make feel smaller than I am.
It only makes me behave stupidly ‘big’.

Don’t correct me in front of people if you can help it.
I’ll take much more notice if you talk quietly in private.

Don’t make me feel my mistakes are sins.
It upsets my sense of values.

Don’t protect me from consequences.
I sometimes need to learn the painful way.

Don’t be too upset when I say, ‘I hate you’.
It isn’t you I hate but your power to thwart me.

Don’t take too much notice of my small ailments.
Somestimes they get me the attention I need.

Don’t forget I cannot explain myself as well as I should like.
This is why I’m not always very accurate.

Don’t make rash promises.
Remember that  feel badly let down when promises are broken.

Don’t tax my honesty too much.
I am easily frightened into tellings lies.

Don’t be inconsistent.
That completely confuses me and makes me lose faith in you.

Don’t tell me my fears are silly.
They are terribly real, and you can do much to reassure me if you try to understand.

Don’t put me off when I ask questions.
If you do, you will find that I stop asking and seek my information elsewhere.

Don’t ever suggest that you are perfect or infallible.
It gives me too great a shock.

Don’t ever think that it is beneath your diginity to apologise to me.
An honest apology makes me feel surprisingly warm towards you.

Don’t forget how quickly I am growing up.
It must be difficult to keep pace with me but do try.

Don’t forget I love experimenting.
I couldn’t get on without it, so please put up with me.

Don’t forget I can’t thrive without lots of understanding and love.
But I don’t need to tell you, do I?

Mars Vs Venus

I think this is TCS Mediacorp best drama ever. The four couples (Chen Tianwen & Aileen Tan – pak tor days, Pierre Png & Jesseca Liu – just married days, Tay Ping Hui & Huang Bi Ren – married for very long days, Cavin Soh & May Phua – married very long and have problems worse solution by finding someone else outside days) in the show reflects what married couples face in their relationships at one point or another. It made me reflect on myself and the way I treat Dar and serves as a reminder on what marriage is all about and should be about. There are so many scenarios in the show that I can quote which feels right next to my heart.

I love one of the songs in the show. Surprisingly, its sang by Redwan Ali – Would You Be There. In my impression, his name always appear in the credits as some song writer or tune writer but don’t think I’ve ever heard him sing. Dar managed to find the song for me and I’m listening to it now, so touching..

Came across an article recently on marriage too and  find it really good. Have a good read and hope you learn something too!

The Challenge Of Marriage

Dear Joe,

I NEVER thought that something would happen that would leave me lost. Like a typical man, I’d prided myself in figuring things out on my own.

I am in my late twenties, working in the sales division of a company. I’ve led a fairly exciting life. I finished school early, before I was 20. I collected girlfriends like trading cards. I soon found myself saying “I do” to one of my girlfriends I had slept with because when her family found out, they forced me to take responsibility for my actions.

I was miserable yet I remained the picture of the perfect husband. After so many years of being good and dutiful, one glance sent me into a tailspin. I never knew I was holding my breath for so long and at that very moment found the reason for breathing. I hadn’t noticed her before, though we worked together. But now, I became very much aware of her presence. I didn’t know her name, and I was scared to find out. All I could really do was admire her from afar.

We eventually found ourselves talking during breaks. The hours would just fly by. I found myself telling her about my life, and she told me all about hers. But I hadn’t told her the most important detail in my life: that I’m married. I knew that letting her know would change things.

When I decided to tell her, a lot of things came out. I told her that she was special to me, that I enjoy so much being with her and that she makes me happy even though I’m married. I was prepared for her anger. But what she did next surprised me. After calmly asking how long I’ve been married, she started to weep. She asked why I told her this too late. Why did I allow her to fall for me? I was shocked. She was falling for me? But I was falling for her, too.

We both decided to keep away before things got messy. I didn’t want to let her go, and I could see in her eyes that she was unwilling to let me go, as well. But this was the right thing to do. I spent more time with my wife and tried to notice the little things she did so I’d appreciate her more. But I was dying inside.

And then, one day, I bumped into her again. She didn’t want to look at me but I felt her sadness. I knew then we both couldn’t go on like this. So I told her how I was lost without her. I found out from her that she too was miserable without me. So we decided to continue the friendship, but made sure we didn’t cross the boundaries until we both knew what to do.

She told me once that she loved me and that all she wanted was for me to be happy even if it meant not being with her. I feel so much for her as well. I know I love her, but right now I don’t know if that love is enough for me to leave all the things that I know.
I don’t know what to do. I don’t have anyone to talk to about this. You’re the only one I can run to, Joe.

Alex

———————————————————————————————————

Dear Alex,

I know it would be too late to tell you that you shouldn’t have married out of obligation, but then again, a lot of people miss out on this very important rule. Marriage should not be used to fix something. Marriage is for people who share one love. It is not about needs being fulfilled. It is about loving a person and choosing to be with that person, not out of duty but out of genuine and heartfelt love.

Alex, you realized that it would have been better had you not married your wife when you met the girl you truly love. But it’s too late to even think of having a relationship with her. You are two people caught in the wrong place and time and I don’t see anything that could make it right except the love that you feel for each other. I have always said, time and again, that loving someone is not a sin. It is what people do when they feel they are in love that usually gets them into trouble. And even if you feel that loving her is the right thing to do, it still isn’t.

The greatest challenge to a marriage comes when someone gets into the picture and steals the scene. Your challenge, Alex, is how to keep your marriage alive and how to keep your heart from dying inside. You have to play a fair game. If we all allow our marriages to be threatened by someone who can offer us something better, then all of us would be miserable because there would always be better partners than the ones that we have now.

It eventually becomes a matter of contentment. Let us try to make our marriages work even if at times we lose our interest in them. Let us always remember being blessed is not always in finding someone new to love but in being able to continue to love someone whom we have always had, and making that love grow each and every single day.

Great Singapore Sale

I think its a disaster to whatever savings plan I’ve in mind working in right smack in the middle of town with like-minded shopaholic colleagues. :(

The Great Singapore Sale officially starts in one hour time but it has begun for my colleagues last week (Isetan and CK sale) and I managed to ‘tahan’ till today (G2000 and GG<5).

I was outside Wisma G2000 this morning at 10am happily waiting for them to open their doors as they are having 20% off the final bill on top of the discounts they are having! After waiting for 15 mins and staring at their staff inside, I realised that they only opened at 11am. End up going up to  Toastbox to have breakfast before coming back down and spending one hour in there trying all their clothes before walking over to Taka G2000 to spend another hour there because different outlets carry slightly different range. Going back tomorrow to get another black knitted top after much consideration the whole day.

Knitted cardigan – to match another old spaghetti strap dress of mine.

Puffy sleeve white shirt – unique like pirate, maybe I can wear to watch Pirates of the Carribean, haha..

Cuff-link white strip shirt – smart.

Fish-tail black skirt – very slimming!

After spending two freaking hours shopping, decided to get my ass back into office. But I find shopping is addictive, once you start, how to stop?!?

Went to Heatwave to buy a pair of heels followed by another pair from Mondo. No pictures as still in office, don’t dare to bring home lor. I think Dar will divorce me, that is, after he recovers from the heart attack.

But the the worst damage was at GG<5. The Wisma one was super crowded when I was there in the afternoon so did not managed to find anything nice. When I was having dinner at Central’s Sun with Moon (BAD SERVICE, the one at Wheelock is so much better), located at Clarke Quay, they had a new outlet there, which was so empty that the salesgirl can follow me around ‘collecting’ all the clothes I want to try lor! They even have all the sizes and nicer designs which Wisma already do not have.

Black shirt dress with belt – look flattering, that’s what my collegues says (bad influence) though I find I look frumpy, but the power of friends..

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Black lace skirt – this is absolutely sweet but cost me a bomb 2 bombs (plus the shirt dress) even after discount :(

The above was exclusive of six Wacoal bras I got yesterday.

I hope it rains money tomorrow..

p.s: please ignore the orbit colour bedsheets, my mom chooses them and her maid changes them so I don’t bother what pattern as long I don’t need to wash, hang, fold or change can le. :P

p.p.s : you may ask me anything about my buys other than the price, I absolutely do not wish to be reminded on it.

Sun, Sand, Sea

Had a great time at the beach today.

Hope to go again but I hate being black. Tan still nevermind, I’m those type that turns black after being under the sun. Boo..

Was lathering on so much sunblock ony myself and even went into the Island Shop at Palawan Beach to buy a SPF50 sunblock after I find that the SPF35 one I was using doesn’t seem to be working.

Dar and his friend built a rather impressive (to me at least) sandcastle today before Regan the Destroyer got rid of it!

Updated Renovation Progress

Now that I’ve more time, I decided to be very updated on my renovation progress in my blog. :)

My platform living room. The wall and floor is going to be carpeted. I know maintenance will be hassle, worry about that later. Nice now can le!

My kitchen after the walls are hacked.

To the left of the kitchen. That wall will be totally different when its done. Hard to explain now la but a picture says a thousand words. So watch that space ya! Heh..

The walkway to my bedrooms now. Having a headache about this area at the moment as its an area that is big not say big but say small not say small. Wanted to wallpaper that wall initially, hang a mirror and put a tall standing ornament at one corner but the ID say can’t do as not nice because the wallpaper won’t have 搜口. If no wallpaper, it will look kinda boring and plain lei. How how how?

I changed the toilet windows too. It was those lourve kind.

I prefer one piece type. Easier to clean also. Don’t know how much though, haven’t pay yet. :p

They did the first coat of painting on Wednesday. I love the black ceilings as it makes the ceiling look higher like a bottomless hole. Was telling Dar that with the white ceiling, it seems the top of his head can hit the ceiling but with black ceiling, there seems to be so much space in between. Need to discuss with ID again. Feel that the colour is still a bit too light. Prefer something more mocha. Playing with colours is fun!

The kitchen after painting. It looks way neater in one colour than all the patches here and there before.

Ta dah!! After painting. Quite a bit of transformation right. Chose green for his room as its good for the eyes. Hee hee.. Was worried after I chose it though because I’ve seen awful green rooms but when I saw it, I think it looks happy. Its the only room in the house that has such a bright and cheery colour.

My sanitary was delivered that same day.

Most important, my rainbath shower head! Er, still in the box, after they install, I take the picture again ok. Think they are doing the installation this weekend.

Its still super dusty and messy now. And I’m worried about them staining my new homogeneous tiles though it is covered with corrugated paper now and my ID say he will polished it before handover. But there are some parts where the corrugated paper is torn and the tiles are kinda very dirty.

I can’t wait for it to be finished. Can it be tomorrow?

Woo Hoo

My second semester is finally over.

Yesterday’s Buyer Behaviour paper was worse my Corporate Governance paper, which I already thought that was very jia lat. I need a miracle. I need to go to the temple.

Sighs.. Heck le, it’s over and I don’t want to think about it anymore till 6 June when the results are out.

Slept only for 2 hours the previous night. Went for buffet lunch at Grand Plaza Park Royal hotel and shopping at Marina Square with Diana and Kirstie after the exam but I think we were too tired and did not really enjoyed ourselves. Imagine three walking and talking zombies!

Progress On Renovations

My floor plan.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

View from my living room, I love it – unblock and windy! I can walk around naked lor, er, I won’t do that la.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My main door. Want to change but no budget. It cost a freaking $1500+ for a fire rated door. Ai ya, why need fire rated, if got fire, I don’t think it will help a lot lor.

Common toilet. Yucky colour. Out out out!

Bangala pasting notice of renovation. Its finally starting. Yay..

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The sand and tiles are here. With the Indonesia government restricting on granite import, it cost many times more now lor. What bad timing. Can’t the government wait till I finish my renovation? And noone was guarding it can, what if someone steals it!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Did not manage to take pics of the hacking of floor tiles but this pic shows my swanking new homogeneous tiles (600 by 600) in the living room. Nice lor! The area which is not tiled is for the platform. I think that day was my most excited day in my renovation. Now the place is in shambles, ruins and big MESS.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Area behind the living room and walkway to bedrooms.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Gap left because the kitchen wall is not hacked yet as was waiting for permit. Hence, layed the surrounding tiles first. I think the tilers super efficient. Finish it within 3 days.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My masterbedroom toilet tiles.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Saving the masterbedroom glass shower screen in the pre-renovation photo for re-use. No money to get new one. Cost about $600 for a new one.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Masterbedroom toilet tiles done. The wall and floor tiles are using the same type of tile, just that wall tile is rectangular (300 by 600) while the floor tile is square (300 by 300).

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Common toilet tiles done, The wall tiles looks like almost the same colour (300 by 600) as the masterbedroom toilet but its shiny type, like those hotels one. But I’m using black tiles (300 by 300) for the floor instead.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Bedroom wall hacked. So awful looking right with that dangerous hanging electrical cable.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Opposite view of above.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Can see the masterbedroom doorway is moved to the front from the floor markings. I actually kinda regretted that. Should have left the doorway intact and seal up the other door instead so that I’ve a longer walkway from the living room to make the place looks bigger I guess. Anyways, its a done deal. *bleahs* The whole place is so dusty.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Living room electrical works. Actually now all cannot see already, covered by the false ceiling.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ok, that’s about it for the time being.

Went to take more pictures of my living room platform today which is already up but too lazy to transfer to my laptop and upload. I can feel the cosiness of the living room already. Heh.. The false ceilings and boxed up walls are done as well. Can’t wait for everything to be finish. The anticipation is killing. But so is the amount of money I’m paying. *vomit blood*

Spent the last two hours doing this long overdue entry. I need to get back to my studies now. Will refrain from blogging till Thursday. Sighs! I hate exams..
